So last night I began sewing my needlebook together. Hand sewing/stitching I love, enjoy, take great pleasure in but sitting down in front of a sewing machine is a different story. I'm sure the thing has it in for me!! Putting the 2 sides together, I sewed around it and that turned out not too badly. The next step was to sew in the felt pages using a zipper foot. I had no idea what this looked like or where it was. My mom was home and when I asked her if the piece I found was the zipper foot she said " No, that's for making buttonholes." Aaargh! I did find the right piece in a container of spools and other sewing machine stuff and sewed in my needle pages. Voila:
So here is my needlebook sans the tie which just didn't work out and sans the accent piece on the back which looked horrible due to my uneven machine sewing. I have yet to finish the spine piece to cover up my messy sewing on the outside and also put a pocket in the inside. When I showed my daughter my needlebook, her response was "Another one?" Yes, I do have 4 already but now I'll have 5 :)
I didn't get my first one quite right so decided to make another one right away and hopefully I won't have to use the seam ripper on this one and now that I won't have to look for the zipper foot, it should go smoother.
You can never have t many needle books! Love the flower on this one.
ReplyDeleteThanks Annet! How many do you have?
DeleteI have 4, but only use 3 of them. The last one is a very old one. I made it when I learned patchwork and needed a needlebook. It's wonky, but special. You can see them here:

JennyPennyPoppy your little needlebook is beautiful! I love your post about the trials and tribulations of making something out of your personal comfort zone. And you are very smart to make another one right away. Blissful stitching...
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I know if I sewed more I'd get better at it but alas with limited free time it's very low down on the priority list.
DeleteI have never seen a needlecase as nice as this Jenny...that flower is amazing!!! Maisie
ReplyDeleteThank you very much!! It's a great course that Susan is offering on her Plays With Needles site. The instructions and videos are very clear. I hadn't done any ribbon embroidery for ages so it was fun use silk ribbon again to stitch the flower :)
DeleteYour needlebook turned out lovely! Your cover flower looks great! It doesn't matter that you don't have made the embellishment on the backcover, does it? It is nice made with love, that counts :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the lovely comments on my blog :)
Thank you and you're right. It isn't wrong that it's missing a few things and I'm still happy with how it turned out. I'm sure my 2nd one will go smoother. :)
DeleteI have so many needlebooks all over the place and can never find the one I want! Maybe I should take your inspiration and make one for all of them. beautiful stitching.
ReplyDeleteHaha! That's great that you have so many. Did you make them all yourself? This one has 10 pages of felt so it will hold a lot of needles!
DeleteLooks great! You can't have too many.. I too have five... Susan is such a great person, I can only imagine how wonderful her course would be... We met last spring, and have been good friends ever since. Congrats on a sweet little needlebook- you will love using it!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Linda and yes, Susan did a superb job on her class. How nice that you met and have become friends! Her written instructions for the needlebook were straight forward and easy to follow & not confusing at all. The videos too were very well done and helped a lot. I hope she plans to do another e-course.
DeleteI love your silk ribbon flowers and your felt colours.
ReplyDeleteGood on you for jumping right in to make a 2nd one. I have started my second one too. :)
