Evolon Painting

Last year I had purchased a pkg. of  Evolon which is a microfiber material made of nylon and polyester.  I got around to dyeing a bit of it this weekend and will use it to stitch leaves on and see how well it melts with the soldering iron.
After painting the Evolon I took a piece of cotton and played with painting it as well.  I first laid strips of masking tape down for the the fence and using acrylic paint I sponged with blue and then green and some yellow.  When it had dried a bit I took the tape off and voila - a white fence.  With red, I painted a small piece of bubble wrap and pressed it randomly on top to look like flowers.  Next I plan to do some free motion embroidery of green vines climbing the rails.  Not sure exactly what I'll do after that.  Just playing and experimenting and having fun.
My Work In Progress for the year is going to be this cross stitch pattern:  Sampler in Blue designed by Diane Arthurs. It seems I don't know how to count when it comes to cross stitch but the entire design is worked in just one colour:  DMC floss #825 so hopefully that will help me make fewer mistakes.  Here's hoping :)
Two more leafy atcs for the Embroiderer's Assoc. of Canada atc challenge that's happening in April.  The picture makes them look very flat but I used the soldering iron on both of these to make raised leaves.
Chain stitch, stem stitch, french knots and buttonhole stitching on a piece of silk paper were used for this oak leaf atc.
Stitchin' fingers had an atc swap in January and this is the delightful atc that I received from Faye in Australia.  I sent one of my leaf atc's to Grace who lives in the UK.

Woke up this morning to -29 degrees Celsius or -20 Fahrenheit.  Brrr - it's a cold one.  Stay warm everyone and I hope everyone has time to do some stitching today.

  2. I love to play. I will have to take some time out to do that when I catch up a little more. It will be fun to see how your piece turns out with added stitching. Beautiful cross stitching. The blue on white looks amazing.

  4. You are so multitalented! The painted field with white fence and flowers is so nicely made. The cross stitch is something totally different, and then there are all those leafy atcs...

  6. what creativity you have here Jenny how amazing your piece is. Do you not find that acrylic paint makes the fabric very stiff or maybe it is just the paint I have tried. The fence and the flower heads are brilliant Have to own up to having some evolon in the drawer for a few years, must get it out! Lovely leaves you have created. Two very nice cards form 2 people I also have on my mailimg list, what a small world it is.

  9. I'm looking forward to seeing how your work with the Evolon goes. You're off to a great start. Is Evolon similar to either Tyvek or Lutradur? Your ATC's are beautiful, I especially love the leafy ones you did for the EAC exchange.

  11. I really like your pained backdrop. That will be such fun to work with. The cards are great and good luck with the cross stitch. It looks terrific, but I understand your counting difficulties - I have them too. Our forecast for today in +38C and +40C by Saturday. It seems mad - you freeze, we boil!

  15. Well these are all such beautiful projects! The Evolon looks very interesting and fun! The cross stitch you will be continuing with looks very pretty already! It makes you think of redwork with embroidery being all in one color. I think that will be perfect! Your leaf ATC's are amazing, as usual!!! You stay warm up there! We are still warm down here, thank God! ;)
