In keeping with the owl theme from my last post I've been working on a couple more. The wonderful pattern for this owl can be found on Morena's blog Embroidery Stitches. Mine is riddled with mistakes though as it seems I can never do a cross stitch pattern without any. Thank you very much Morena for this free pattern!
The pattern for this small owl is from The Better Homes and Gardens 2001 Cross Stitch Designs. I used left over threads from a previous project instead of the suggested colours. This one is so nice and tiny that it stitched up quickly.
Since taking a break from learning how to tat I thought I'd try my hand at learning Romanian Point Lace. I figured out how to crochet the outer cord from watching Wendy Harbaugh's YouTube video.
The inner portion is supposed to be a circle but it didn't quite come out that way. All the instructions and the free pattern are from Joanne's Thread Head blog. This is just a small portion of the pattern but for my first attempt I wanted to keep it small.
It was dragon boat races last weekend and this year my daughter (sitting beside me) joined the Breast Cancer Survivor team as we were a few paddlers short.
We had 3 races that day each 500 metres long. The morning started off windy and cold but as the day progressed it gradually warmed up and the wind dropped which was great. It was tough paddling against the wind.
Julie and myself taking a break between races.
A view of our team giving it our all. We came in last for each race but we gave it our best shot and enjoyed the camaraderie. Way to go ladies!
Glad you had a fun time at the race :)
ReplyDeleteSweet owls

what a great event! Love the owl too!
ReplyDeleteGreat job at the race. I love that close-up photo of you and your daughter. The owls are adorable and that new lace, wow! It's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLove your stitching here! Cute to do several owls! Your daughters name is Julie! You both looked adorable on the boat! Sounded like a good day!
ReplyDeleteXoxo-another Julie!!!
cute owls the top one looks like it is dancing. Rowing is such hard work well done.
ReplyDeleteI love owls and yours are ever so cute! And you did a marvelous job on the flower - I`m going to have to do some research on that type of embroidery because it looks intriguing.
ReplyDeleteI haven't cross stitched in ages, and I used to be totally addicted. At one point, I owned every color of DMC floss... just had to have it! Then the cats got to it. I no longer have a supply of DMC floss, nor do we have any cats. As you know, tatting is my passion now!
ReplyDeleteRPL is something I am determined to learn! I've even been tempted to buy the cording already made to give me a jump start... then I think of how much money I could save by making my own. ;-)
You have been active! Two lovely owls, that stunning Romanian Point Lace and then a tough race rowing against the wind but for a good cause and in great company.
ReplyDeleteAll the best!
Such a priceless picture of you and your daughter teaming together. Your owls do not show any flaws. I cannot follow tiny little holes in fabric with no pattern to show me the way. Are you learning shuttle or needle tatting...I am trying but with no capability at all. DVD's and YouTube just do not help me. I need hand to hand personal instruction. Creative Stitching Bliss Dear...
ReplyDeleteThank you so much dear Jenny!
ReplyDeleteYou embroidered owl divinely ...... is Wonderful!
The choice of fabric and embroidery thread brings out my simple cross-stitch pattern!
Kisses.

ReplyDeleteYour romanian lace looks lovely, this as a first attempt is wonderful can see you are going to be very good at this technique.
A good day had by all with the boat race, you are fit to do that, hope you were not too stiff and aching the next day
You know by now that I love little owls projects, so of course, I'm bound to adore your latest ones!!! Great neat work as always. Glad you had a lovely time boat racing... and keeping fit too :)
ReplyDeleteMore beautiful owls! The lace looks lovely.Seems like you're having a great time.
ReplyDeleteThat first owl is really impressive. Great photos and the lace is enticing!
ReplyDeleteWow, you have been one busy girl...the owls are too cute! RPL looks very beautiful, I really like the needle weaving on the points....I will have to look into learning this. The photos of you and your daughter are priceless...what a great memory the 2 of you created that day. Last place...I think not! You were out there rowing, getting great exercise and fresh air, doing something wonderful for your body and mind...in my opinion that is FIRST PLACE!
