First tatting post!!

Hahaha!  I worked on this for 2 hours under the patient guidance of Gail and this was my great result. Did a whole lot of laughing as for some reason I just couldn't "get" it.  I persevered though :)
Had to cut my mess of knots off from the shuttle and try again and slowly, slowly I made some knots and a few picots that turned out right :)
Another little piece that took me a couple of hours to do.  I had to undo just about every single one of the double knots at least once to get them to be the right way.  Think I'm getting the knack, maybe?
For my first big piece I would dearly like to make this pattern which is from a 1997 Anna magazine.  I can just imagine how long it will take as it looks complicated and I don't know how to join things yet.

  1. I used to know someone who tatted, but I never saw how she did it. So I just went now and watched a video on YouTube, and I must say my hat is off to you! such intricate finger movements. you must keep us updated on your progress.

    1. Thanks Boud! I watched numerous YouTube videos but for the life of me I just couldn't figure it out. All thumbs I guess. I needed someone sitting right beside me and showing me over and over again. Definitely hope I progress :)

  2. Congrats on your first lesson! Yay! Well done there, Jeanette! ( And good on you--I haven't learned how to shuttle tat yet)
Just keep practicing, and before you know it, you'll be tatting that big piece, and wondering why you thought it was so complicated! Way to go!

    1. Thanks Susan! Can't wait until I no longer think it's complicated. Is needle tatting easier then?

    1. I think I looked for tatting needles last year in a couple stitchery stores here but could only find shuttles so shuttle tatting it is!
