I'm progressing very, very slowly on my iris. Getting each thread to lie just right is quite painstaking but I'm pleased with the progress and haven't had to take out too many threads so far. Yeah!
I'm not much of a knitter but I loved the look of this yarn and have started a simple scarf that is only 7 stitches back and forth. It's a nice easy relaxing break from my long/short embroidered iris.
Last year I valiantly tried to learn how to shuttle tat and gave up in despair. I ordered a set of tatting needles from Nordic Needle and very happily figured out how to do the double stitches and picots. Today I tried to tat this simple flower design but obviously I need to figure out how to read tatting patterns next.
It's pretty hard to stitch, knit or tat when this beauty is peering in through the window :)
The male Downy Woodpecker is also a pleasure to watch as he feasts on suet from the suet log.
Your stitching, knitting and tatting is all beautiful done. Lovely photos of the bird and deer. Hugs Judy
ReplyDeleteYour Iris stitching is stunning. I like the knitted ruffle scarf. I so agree with the tatting dilemma...I tried to self learn shuttle with no luck and then needle with very little progress. If only I had paid more attention to Grandma's tatting friends. Oh Deer! He looks hungry!! Beautiful Woodpecker. Nature is amazing. Happy Hearts are Creative Hearts...
ReplyDeleteyour iris is coming along beautifully Jenny. Hasn`t wool changed over the years, I would never have thought it would look like what you are using. Good to see you have the tatting needles, I find them great, there are lots of videos on utube with patterns etc.
ReplyDeleteYour deer is very friendly, he will be coming in the house next if you are not careful!
All is BEAUTIFUL!!!
ReplyDeleteEmbroidery, tatting, knitting and photos.... a Dream for me!!
Happy new week.
Morena
aww they all so lovely..
ReplyDeletesending you lots of love x
it's lovely to see other crafters who like to try lots of different things. I bought a shuttle tatting course on Craftsy but haven't tried it yet. I'm not sure what needle tatting is - could you explain? I'd love to see more of your tatting as it's lovely!
ReplyDeleteYour iris is going very well...your scarf perfect...my dream is, one day be abble to tat like you and love the picture of your "guests"...
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week.
Anna
I've been following the progress of your Iris, and I think it is stunning! I love the yarn you are using for your ruffled scarf.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on learning to needle tat! That's something I haven't mastered. To be honest, I gave it a quick try once and abandoned it for my shuttles. My friend Denise told me that needle tatting helped her understand how the double stitch is made, making it easier for her to shuttle tat. Who knows, maybe you'll be one of those lucky tatters who can master both techniques!
Everything is beautiful (as always) but that little scarf looks amazing!!
ReplyDeleteThe Iris is beautiful, scarf looks like fun. Keep up with the tatting. I was lucky and the lady that taught me to make lace also showed me how to tat with a shuttle.
ReplyDeleteWhat a talented lady you are, and your work is so classy and beautiful..
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be able to do a stitch of work if that little critter was peeking through the window... Maybe it wants to help? or looking for food? Feed me.!!! Feed me!!! BJ
The iris is coming out beautifully. I love the scarf too.
ReplyDeleteYour Iris is beautiful. I think you inspired me to pick up my long and short stitch sampler, thank you! And I tried shuttle tatting too, but needle tatting is much easier. You can find a video for the pattern at you background here:

Lovely visitors in your garden!
Is that sashay yarn you're using? It's a quit knit and makes a lovely, frilly scarf!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful iris in the making. I'm looking forward to seeing it all stitched.
Let me know if I can help at all with the needle tatting. I'm no expert, but maybe if we put our heads together......
I don't think I'd get much done with someone peering over my shoulder, but, gee, cute deer. It's just recently we've seen the downy at the suet. Maybe the hairy wps are keeping them away.
I love all your projects! What wonderful wildlife you have on your doorstep, you are so lucky!
ReplyDeleteYour iris is coming along nicely, looks very neat. I've not seen yarn like that and only 7 stitches, now that sounds like my kind of knitting.
ReplyDeleteYour iris is beautiful! I love the deer and bird pictures too. I don't know how to knit or tat but both projects look like fun!
ReplyDeleteYour iris is coming along beautifully!
ReplyDeleteYes, needle painting is a very slow and accurate job, but so rewarding.
